devotional-kerryTrusting God is simply believing that God loves you, and knowing with every fibre of your being that God is a good God.

Believe God wants the best for you, has the power to help you and that God wants to help you.

As Christians, we are meant to be believers, but many times we are more likely to believe in what we can see or can control, rather than believing in the unseen.

We trust what our family, friends and colleagues say. We listen to what the news and the naysayers say about the current state of affairs of our economy, and believe in all the doom & gloom.

We listen and believe all this, but we fail we listen to or trust in what God, and God’s word says.

As Christians we know what we are meant to do; but of course, we all know it’s easier said than done!

Human nature makes us inclined to go it alone and do things in own strength, and with our limited human abilities. We desperately tell God how we’re doing what we’re meant to be doing (or think we’re doing what we’re meant to be doing) and ask God, “So why haven’t You come through for me?” However, in all of this, we tend to rather “tell” God what to do but haven’t actually included God in any part of our decision-making process, nor in many aspects of our lives.

In fact, we tend to leave God out of the equation until we believe God hasn’t done what we expected God to do!
Throughout our lives, we have all been let down and hurt to varying degrees and as a result, have learnt many coping mechanisms to enable us to deal with the hurts or disappointment and to handle life.

One of the most common coping mechanisms is to not trust anyone in case they hurt us or let us down. The safest bet being, to only trust in our abilities. This is contra to what living by faith is all about.

God wants us to put our confidence and trust in God all the time, and in every situation.

Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on God to guide you, and God will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with God in whatever you do, and God will lead you wherever you go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all. Proverbs 3:5-6 (TPT)

When you become a Christian and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord, Holy Spirit your counsellor and guide through life, comes to live within you. The more you grow in your walk as a Christian and learn what the characteristics of God really are, the more you will hear Holy Spirit prompting you and guiding you.

This means studying God’s word (really sinking your teeth in) and learning what the scriptures say about God and God’s character. In this way, you will grow in wisdom and as you grow and mature in your Christian walk, will learn to make wiser choices and decisions as you will be communing with God, trusting God to lead you and following God’s wisdom learned through scripture.

You will learn that by trusting in and communing with God rather than relying only on your own abilities will make life’s journey so much more pleasurable and rewarding!
