devotional-kerryWe are brought up in a world where we are taught to trust no one, and to rely only on self, as everyone else will let you down.

This was either said explicitly to you, or from past experiences, where you had put your faith in someone, and they let you down. This is particularly relevant to me, as I have always hated relying on others, and always wanted to be self-reliant.

I am also inclined to be a worrier. I worry about the people I love, (even more so when they are going through difficult times) I worry about how I can make things better for them, I worry about finances, about work, and the list goes on…

When we come to the Lord, this is all turned upside down! We are taught to live by faith and not by sight, and to trust in the unseen. One of the key fundamentals to being a Christian, is to live by faith, and to put our trust in God.

This trust is also not meant to be conditional, and to only pertain to certain pockets of our lives, but rather to refer to every single sphere.

We need to trust that our God is the God of the impossible, that God is not a human being who would let us down. Our God created the world by speaking it into being, so surely our God can take care of whatever we are facing!

However, this does not mean that we just sit back, and act merely as spectators, waiting for God to turn up. We still need to ensure we are intentionally doing our part, knowing that when we have done all we can do, to trust God to do the rest and make the impossible happen!

An example of this would be in our finances. We need to ensure we are tithing and bringing offerings to the Lord, and being good stewards of the balance of our money, and then trusting God that in our due season, God will bring promotion and increase.

Does this mean we live in “la-la land” and have no worries? Of course not. We live in the world, and have very real problems. What it does mean though, is that we can have peace of mind. Peace of mind in knowing that when we are walking in the will of God, nothing can stop God’s plans!

I have had to learn a different way of thinking, and of approaching things through the renewing of my mind, (Romans 12.2) and have had to learn to allow God into these situations, and to trust God.

If you take a moment and reflect on God’s track record, you will see how God has never let you down. God has always been there with you, even through the hard times, God got you through.

Decide today to trust God with your everything. Ask the Lord to reveal to you, the areas where you have made the decision to take matters into your own hands and to go it alone. In doing so, you have inadvertently blocked off God’s best for you!

God’s ways are always so much higher and better than we can ever imagine or fathom, if we would but just trust God to be God, and allow God the access to the impossible in our lives!

Take delight in the Lord, and God will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in God and God will do this: God will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. (Psalm 37:4-6 NIV)
